INSURGENCY: BOKO HARAM ATTACKS CUSTOMS OFFICE, CHECK POINT, KILLS ONE OFFICER IN GAIDAM TOWN                                                                     22-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       Unknown Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have attacked customs house in Geidam town, Yobe State at around 21:30pm hours of Saturday.

It was gathered that the insurgents stormed the customs office along Maine Soroa road in a Volkswagen Golf and started shooting.

A resident of the area Usman Nndama in an interviewed with Africa 247 said they all ran for their lives and safety, on hearing gun shots.

The unfortunate event led to the death of one of the custom officers, Usman Gombe, while attempting to rescue himself from the insurgents.

He explained that the insurgents also burnt down the customs patrol van, a generator, and part of the customs house building.

Residents of the town told Africa 247 that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents on the outskirts of Geidam town had increased in recent days, and had led to the death of about three security operatives including a NSCDC officer on its market day.

Earlier today Sunday, the road which led to the Customs office was closed for security reasons, but was later opened and normal activities have since resumed in Gaidam town as usual without panicking.
