PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU APPROVES 18 BILLION NAIRA FOR GROUP LIFE ASSURANCE OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES 25-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of 18 billion Naira for the payment of the Group Life Assurance benefits of members of the Armed Forces.
Launching the Emblem and Appeal Fund for 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja, the President said the gesture was in appreciation for their service to the nation.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which is being observed on the 15th of January annually, a day marking the end of the Nigerian Civil War, is to honour Nigerian soldiers, who paid the supreme sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, and Peace Corps Support Operations around the world.
The aim is to sustain appreciation to the services rendered by the fallen heroes, the injured, those that have retired from service, and motivate those in active service to give their best in defence of the unity and sovereignty of their country.
At the event, President Bola Tinubu, gave assurance that his administration would continue to re-position and strengthen the nation’s security agencies to enable them restore and sustain normalcy in troubled spots.
“Our foremost objectives is to provide a conducive environment, free from threats and criminalities to enable all who reside within our borders to thrive and live in peace”, the President emphasised.
The President called on the business class to also sustain their support to Nigeria’s service personnel by way of giving them preferential treatment, discount, or patronising the expertise of those of them in retirement.
He also appealed to Nigerians to donate generously in support of families and dependants of fallen heroes.
President Tinubu commended State Governments’ support to the Nigerian legion, and encouraged government agencies to continue to patronise their services.
The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, had earlier acknowledged the President’s support to the welfare of service personnel, adding that their benefits are being paid constantly.
“Furthermore, the scholarship programme for the children of the deceased up to tertiary level is being implemented”, the Minister explained.
In an interview, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said the support being rendered had given them hope that their services were being appreciated.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Tajudeen Abbas, pledged a donation of 60 million Naira on behalf of the National Assembly, while the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, donated 50 million Naira on behalf of civil servants.
