PRESIDENCY CLARIFIES CONTROVERSIES SURROUNDING PURCHASE OF YACHT INCLUDED IN THE SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET                                                                             02-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Presidency has clarified the controversies surrounding the proposed purchase of a yacht included in the latest Supplementary Budget sent to the National Assembly for approval.

In a statement the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, explained that the yacht in question was for the purposes of security operations and not for use by the President for pleasure’s sake.

He said the yacht was ordered by the navy under the previous administration, adding that President Tinubu considered its importance in the maintenance of National security, hence its inclusion in the Supplementary Budget.

According to the statement, the payment request for the boat was part of the committed obligation submitted by the office of the Chief of Naval Staff to the Ministry of Defence, upon which the total requests submitted requests was in excess of 200 billion Naira, out which the President approved 62 billion Naira.

The statement says President Tinubu is focused on securing the country’s and territorial waters, adding that the government is investing more resources to enhance greater economic output from oil and gas, as well as marine and blue economy.

It stresses that Nigerians will soon get the benefits of the ongoing reforms that will lead to a buoyant and improved quality of life.
