WAEC CHARGED TO STEP UP FIGHT AGAINST EXAM FRAUD- GOV SULE 17-11-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Governor of Nasarawa State, Mr. Abdullahi Sule has appealed to the West African Examinations Council, WAEC not to relent in its efforts at addressing Examination Malpractices in the country.
He made the appeal in a message to the Opening of the 61st Annual Meeting of the Nigeria National Committee of WAEC, held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Nasarawa State, Dr. John Mamman, Governor Sule said it was obvious that WAEC through various technogical innovations had been fighting Examination Malpractices in the conduct of its examinations to a large extent.
He however, stressed that beyond the great feat WAEC had achieved in curbing examination Malpractice in the conduct of its examinations in the Five Member Countries, Nigeria in particular, the Council should improve on its service delivery to meet the needs of the stakeholders.
Governor Sule thanked WAEC for honouring the three best schools that performed exceptionally well in the conduct of the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, in Nasarawa State.
In an opening address, the Chairman, Nigeria National Committee of WAEC, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir applauded WAEC for a job well done in its seventy-one years of operations in West Africa, Nigeria in Particular.
On his part, the Head of National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut gave the assurance that his Council would not relent in its drive to make the conduct of its examinations seemless in all the member countries.
He explained that part of the move WAEC had taken to improve on the conduct of its examination for private candidates was the introduction of Computer Based Testing which would commence in February next year with the first series.
The Overall Best Candidates in the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination were honoured with the West African Examinations Council’s National Distinction Award at the event.
The first prize went to Miss. Obidigbo Chioma, a student of St. Paul’s Academy, Plateau State,
Master Inyang Valour, a student of Topfaith International Secondary School, Osung Ama Estate Uyo Akwa-Ibom State, came second while the third prize went to Master Olumide-Attah Ayomide of St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Idimu, Lagos State.
The Award winners were presented with gifts and cash prizes.
Special Awards were also given to candidates with Special needs.
