KANO STATE GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS DEDICATION IN SUPPORTING AGILE 06-01-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Kano state government (KNSG), has reiterated it’s dedication in supporting the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, aimed at enhancing secondary school education for adolescents girls in the state.
The State commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs Baba Halilu Dantiye, made the pledge while receiving the AGILE team in his office.
This was contained in a statement, signed by the director Special duties of the ministry, Sani Abba Yola and made available to Africa 247 in Kano.
The Commissioner, emphasized the state government’s keen interest in AGILE, citing it’s significance in advancing education within the state.
He highlighted that, Governor Abba Kabir’s administration has allocated N930,000,000 as project counter funding upon assuming office.
Baba Dantiye, urged thorough scrutiny of documents to align with the state’s religious, normative, and cultural values, aiming to dispel any misconceptions regarding the project’s objectives.
The commissioner, emphasized the present administration’s focus on education, allocating 30 percent of the 2024 budget to the sector.

The state Deputy Project Coordinator AGILE, Alhaji Salisu Idris highlighted that, the five-year World Bank-assisted initiative is in collaboration with Federal and state governments.
He stressed that, the project’s primary goal is to increase girls’ enrollment, retention and completion in secondary schools.
The component lead, social norms and communications AGILE Kano, Halima Sadiya Tukur, outlined the project’s three major components,which includes construction of 130 Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across 24 selected local government areas, lacking adequate educational facilities.
She further detailed various activities such as the renovation of existing structures in secondary schools, provision of small grants to 1,228 schools ranging from $8,000 to $16,000 for minor repairs, construction of boreholes and toilets, and allocation of larger grants of $60,000 to 300 secondary schools for major renovations, among others.
