REPS STEPPED DOWN BILL RECOMMENDING DEGREE CERTIFICATE FOR POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS                                                                       13-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The Bill seeking the upward review of minimum education qualifications for Political Office holders was stepped down by House of Representatives after a heated debate for and against the bill
The sponsored of the bill, a member from Ogun State Adewunmi Onanuga, requested for more time to lobby the members to allow the bill scale second reading.
In her lead debate, Mrs Onanuga explained that higher qualifications for Political Office holders would enhance good leadership skills
One of the members who opposed to the Bill, Mr. Babayo Jaha from Borno, stressed the need for leaders to meet up with UNESCO standard for the nation to be at par with the other countries of the world
The Deputy Speaker while stepping down the Bill on the request of the sponsor, said the interest of the nation should always be given priority in legislative matters
Also on a matter of urgent Public Importance, a member from Lagos State Mr. Ademorin Kuye, called for the monitoring of increased FAAC allocation to States government.
According to the lawmaker, Poverty and unemployment rate has increased despite the increased FAAC allocation to the State governors
During the Plenary, four new members were sworn in, four committee reports were also presented to the house.
