Briefing the media shortly after a          procession at the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID campus,
Branch Chairman of the Union, Comrade Yusuf Bulus, said the resolution to embark on the strike action was sequel to a virtual conference and branch congress meeting held on the 13″ and 18th March respectively.

He highlighted some of the Union’s pending demands to include, full implementation of 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding earned allowances, upgrade of obsolete equipment and improve the dilapidated structural state of laboratories in the higher institutions.

“The Union unanimously decided to abide by the outcome of the meeting. The branch has decided to embarkod on a three days warning strike commencing from the 20 March, 2024, terminating on 22 March, 2024” Bulus said.

Comrade Bulus observed that despite the waiver granted by President Bola Tinubu for the payment of withheld salary, their members are yet to receive the payment.

He explained that despite repeated subtle reminders, in form of written correspondence from the Union, government has not responded to their plights.

The Chairman added that during the warning strike, all laboratories will be shut down, suspend teaching of practicals and research works.
