FRSC APPREHENDS 35 TRAILERS CARRYING 982 PASSENGERS                                                                                 04-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                         As part of efforts to curb the alarming trend of trailer-related accidents and the risky practice of transporting passengers in trailers, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Inter-agency Joint Task Force has apprehended 35 trailers carrying a total of 982 passengers.

According to a statement, a Special intervention Patrol team which was constituted by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu to operate along critical corridors, 19 trailers, carrying 810 passengers, were intercepted on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

It says at the Bauchi-Maiduguri operational area, the task force also seized 16 trailers carrying 172 passengers.

The statement says, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, explained that the arrests were made within the first week of operations, spanning from March 23 to March 30, 2024.

It says the Corps Marshal has however directed sector commanders in states where such violations are rampant to sustain engagement with the leadership of road transport unions and owners of articulated vehicles as this proactive measure aims to sensitize and caution drivers against engaging in such hazardous practices.

The Statement affirms the commitment of the FRSC to ensuring road safety and preventing avoidable tragedies on the nation’s highways.
