3 PEOPLE SUFFOCATE WHILE RETRIEVING PHONE FROM THE PIT TOILET                                                                                                 22-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Residents of Yar’Gwanda village Tsanyawa local government area Kano were thrown into mourning following the death of a 60-year-old man Malam Danjuma, his his 35-year-old son Ibrahim and his friend Aminu Gaye died in a pit toilet while trying to recover a cellphone.

The public relations office of Kano State Fire Service Saminu Yusif Abdullahi confirmed the incident.

He explained that the agency recieved an emergency call from Tsanyawa Fire Station that four men were trapped in a pit toilet while trying to retrieve a cell phone.

He stressed that a rescue team was quickly mobilized to the scene where it was discovered that Danjuma tried to retrieve his cell phone that fell into the pit toilet, where he got trapped. Thereafter, his son entered the pit toilet to save his father and also got trapped.

“Gaye and Alasan also entered to rescue both men and they also got trapped”

Saminu explained, that the first 3 victims were rescued unconscious while the fourth victim was still alive.

The Public Relations Officer said the police conveyed the victims to Bichi Special Hospital where doctors on duty confirmed the three dead while the fourth victim 28-year-old Abba Alhassan is currently receiving medical attention.

He said the deceased were handed over to Superintendent of Police Iro Lado at Tsanyawa police division.

Saminu urged the public to desist from exposing themselves to danger and advised them to report fire incidents, drowning, collapsed buildings, and road accidents among others to the nearest fire service office or through their 24 hour telephone numbers.
