NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA NURSES AND MIDWIVES,  DEMANDS FOR ENHANCED NURSES SALARY STRUCTURE                                                                                                     07-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              As nurses and midwives celebrate 2024 International Nurses Week, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, has demanded for an Enhanced Nurses Salary Structure to address the issue of brain drain.

At a conference in Abuja, the National President of the Association, Mr. Michael Nnachi, said investments in the nursing profession, would strengthen the healthcare workforce, improve healthcare outcomes, and create sustainable economic growth within the system.

International Nurses Week is celebrated every year, from the 6th and ends on the 12th of May, which marks the birthdate of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.

The week is set aside to recognise the economic impact of Nursing and the critical role nurses play in providing quality healthcare for the wellbeing of citizens.

While speaking on the theme, Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care; the President of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Mr. Michael Nnachi, maintained that nurses still face financial constraints despite being the backbone of health-care system.

Mr. Nnachi therefore called on all stakeholders to support and empower nurses to reach their full potential and create an environment where they could thrive.

A Professor of Nursing Science at the Bayero Univerity, Kano, Saleh Garba emphasised the need to appoint nurse leaders to executive positions to change the narratives in the health care systems and guarantee universal health coverage.

The event featured presentation of awards to registered members of the profession who had distinguished themselves to an enviable height.
