NIGER STATE RECEIVES OVER 1400 METRIC TONS OF GRAINS FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO VULNERABLE GROUPS                                                                                                                08-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Federal Government has commenced free distribution of essential food items to vulnerable people in Niger State.

The Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Zubaida Umar made this known while Handing-Over the grains to the Niger State Government for onward distribution.

Over One Thousand Four Hundred Metric Tonns of grains will be distributed to vulnerable groups across the Twenty Five Local Government Areas of the State.

A breakdown of the figure indicate that Eleven Thousand bags of Maize, thirteen Thousand Bags of Sorghum and Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty bags of Millet all in 50kg will be shared to the vulnerable people in the State.

The Director General, NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar said the consignment was part of the Forty Two thousand Metric tonns of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic
Reserve that President Bola Tinubu directed to be distributed to cushion the current economic hardship among the vulnerable groups.

She said the beneficiaries were chosen through various committees including traditional institutions and persons living with disability to ensure that the items get to the actual people.

Hajiya Zubaida maintained that based on the directives of President Tinubu, twenty percent of the food items due for each LGA would be given to religious organizations and three percent to boarding schools in the Areas.

The NEMA DG who used the visit to advocate Preparedness and Mitigation on the 2024 flood forecast, said one hundred and thirty five high risk Local Government Areas would be flooded in the country with twelve from Niger State.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State thanked President Tinubu for his concern about the less privileged in his policies and programmes.

He however, appealed to National Emergency Management Agency to do more to alleviate the Sufferings of Internally Displaced Persons in the State.

On the 2024 flood forecast for the State, Governor Bago explained that an Early Warning Committee would be inaugurated to avert the impending disaster.

At the Symbolic Presentation Of the Assorted gains to the vulnerable groups at the Government House in Minna, each beneficiary got One 50kg of Maize, sorghum and millet.
