OVER 45 MILLION TREE SEEDLINGS PRODUCED FOR AFFORESTATION- DG                                                                                     08-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Director-General of National Agency for the Great Green Wall, Dr. Yusuf Bukar, says over forty five million assorted tree seedlings had been produced and raised for afforestation.

Dr. Bukar made this known in Abuja, at an interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Fund.
The Director General of the Great Green Wall, also said over ten million tree seedlings had been distributed to farmers to be planted as trees on farms to promote agroforestry.
Dr. Bukar, explained that substantial degraded landscape had been rehabilitated through various model of plantations.
According to the DG, 4,455 units of solar home lightening systems had been procured and distributed.
He said that the agency had also procured and distributed 6,300 units of super saver wooden stoves to families and inhabitants of rural communities to discourage indiscriminate tree logging for domestic purposes.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji. Sani Jaji, said the Committee’s interactive with the agency was to ensure effective oversight.
Alhaji Jaji, emphasized that the committee is interested in doing all that it takes to ensure its constitutional responsibilities are implemented.
He said that the committee was in possession of several complaints from the public and as representatives of the people, the committee wants clarity from the agency.
