By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Independent National Electoral Commissio INEC has called on Civil Society Organizations CSOs to submit applications for election observation for the forthcoming Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the call during the second quarterly consultative meeting with CSOs in Abuja.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu said submission of the applications along with the required supporting documents in earnest would enable the commission to produce and deliver the identity cards for observers in good time.
According to him, submission of reports for previous accreditation in the manner required by the commission is mandatory for continuous participation in election observation.
‘’Since our last meeting two months ago, many accredited observers have submitted their reports but a few are yet to do so. We urge you to do the needful. Your reports are important for us in reviewing and improving our processes and procedures.’’
INEC chairman passionately appealed to CSO to join the on going voter education for eligible citizens to participate in the forth coming Ten days Continuous Voter Registration in Edo and Ondo States.
He said the commission will open registration centers in all the political wards across the two states to ease the exercise.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu appealed to the civil society organizations to join hands with INEC towards strengthening democratic governance in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the CSOs, Dr. Paddy Njoku of the International Institute of Leadership and Governance commended INEC for carrying stakeholders along in the nation’s electoral system.
