INEC TO COMMENCE CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) IN EDO AND ONDO STATES 13-05-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will commence the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Edo and Ondo States to enable eligible citizens who are not registered voters to do so and for those who want to transfer their registration from other States of the federation to Edo and Ondo States or from one location to another within the two States.
INEC Chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakubu who stated this in Abuja during the Quarterly Consultative Committee meeting explained that Persons who are registered as voters should not attempt to register again as double or multiple registrations was illegal.
He said that the CVR in Edo and Ondo States would be conducted at the Ward level and INEC State headquarters instead of INEC Local Government offices and that it would take place simultaneously from Monday 27th May 2024 to Wednesday 5th June 2024 from 9.00am to 3.00pm daily including the weekend.
Professor Mahmoud appealed to political parties and other stakeholders to join the Commission in mobilising prospective registrants for the exercise, particularly on the need to register early and not wait until the deadline approaches when the registration centres are inundated by eleventh hour registrants.
The INEC Chairman also explained that the uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) would be made available for collection during the CVR.
He urged Party Leaders to adhere strictly to the timeline for the upload of the list of polling and collation agents to the dedicated portal for the Commission to produce and deliver the identity cards in good time for the expected 76,823 Polling Unit agents and 3,587 Ward, Local Government and State collation agents for the 17 political parties participating in the election.
In a remark, the National Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle called for the review of the high expression of interest and nomination fees charged by some political parties despite being internal affairs of the parties.
He said that IPAC would collaborate with INEC on enlightenment to ensure that people come out enmasse to vote on election days.
