ORGANIZED LABOUR INSISTS ON REVERSAL OF ELECTRICITY TARIFF WITHOUT DELAY REVERSE                                                                                                                                     13-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called on Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to immediately reverse the hike in electricity tariff to N65/kwh from 225kwh without further delay.

President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero made the call during the picketing at the headquaters of the NERC in Abuja.

Comrade Ajaero said the current tariff hike causing untold hardship on Nigerians.

Comrade Ajaero commended the federal government for suspending the Cybersecurity levy.

TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo represented by the Deputy President of the Congress, Comrade Etim Okon called on National Assembly to stop the move to remove Labour matters from Exclusive List.

The two labour centres says failure to reverse the hike in electricity trariff will lead to continuous picketing in all NERC’s offices and those of the DISCOs nationwide.

The Organized Labour promised to defend the rights of citizens against exploitation and denounce injustice.

Responding, the chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr Sanusi Garba assured Nigerians that the commission would look into the demands of the organized labour.

Mr Garba said the commission does not intend to build new power plants, but to improve on the existing ones.
