By Sadiq Aminu                                                                      The organized labour in Nasarawa State has set up an eleven-man enforcement committee to monitor and ensure total compliance with the nationwide strike declared by the national leadership of the Nigerian workers.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Ismaila Okoh stated this during an emergency meeting of leaders of the various affiliates of organized labour in Lafia.

He stated that the eleven-man committed had been mandated to carry out 24-hour monitoring of all public and private offices to ensure that workers stayed away from their various duty posts in total compliance with the strike.

The State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress Comrade Mohammed Doma noted that workers in the state were determined to continue with the strike which according to him was a collective struggle for better welfare.

Africa 247 Correspondent who monitored the strike in the Lafia metropolis observed that activities were disrupted in commercial banks as the main gates of the financial institutions were locked while large crowds of customers were seen around the buildings.

Some of the customers Mrs Rhoda Asaba and Mr Habu Iyakwari who expressed disappointment over the situation appealed to the federal government and organized labour to go back to the negotiation table with a view to reaching an amicable resolution in the interest of the ordinary Nigerians.

Also, Union officials at the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic and the College of Arts, Science and Technology Lafia besieged the main entrance of the institutions to prevent workers and students from gaining entrance to the schools in compliance with the strike.
