HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SEEK 6 YEARS SINGLE TERM FOR PRESIDENT, GOVERNORS                                                                       10-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   Bills seeking a single term of 6 years for President, State governors and Chairmen of Local Government Areas have been presented before House of Representatives.
The Bills which are co-sponsored by over thirty House of Representatives Members called Reformed Minded Lawmakers, also proposed for the conduct of all elections including the FCT election at the same day.
Briefing Journalists at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, the Leader of the Reformed Minded Lawmakers, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere, said the Bills also Proposed for the rotation of the Presidency among the six Geo-political Zones of the country.
Mr. Ugochinyere explained that the Bills also Provided for two Vice President, that is Vice President Succession in the case where the President dies and the Vice President Administration.
According to the Lawmakers, the Bills also Provided for conclusion of Pre- election matters in the Court 30 days before election and election matters should be concluded before swearing of the winners.
The Bills also Proposed 7 years imprisonment for any electoral officer or electoral officers who deliberately announced result that is contrary to what people voted.
The Reformed Minded Lawmakers called on Nigerians to support the bills for the citizens to attain the good governance they have been yearning for.
