SECURITY AGENTS IN NIGER STATE FIRED TEAR GAS AND SHOT INTO THE AIR TO DISPERSE PROTESTERS IN TUNGA AREA 01-08-24
By Sadiq Aminu As the ten day nationwide protests over hunger and hardship kick started today, in Niger State, the security agents fired tear gas and shot into the air to disperse some protesters in Tunga area within the State Capital.
Security operatives shot into the air following the refusal of the protesters who erected a barricade on the road leading towards Suleja axis denying people access and preventing vehicular movement.
As at the time of filing this report, one of the protesters was said to be arrested while additional security operatives were deployed to the area.
Meanwhile as at 10 o’clock this morning, the major Kure Market within the Metropolis remained closed while the Gwari Market gates are open but over Eighty percent of the shops are still not opened for business by their owners.
Some filling stations are equally shut while movement of vehicles is also very low.
Africa 247 correspondent gathered that those who declined opening their shops are apprehensive of the outcome of the day-one of the protest.
Correspondent Sadiq Aminu reports that security operatives are deployed at major intercessions within the State Capital to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, Security Operatives in Bida, Niger State are keenly monitoring the situation with their at strategic points of the town.
A number of shops are closed while the street is scanty.
