OVER 600 PROTESTERS REMANDED IN PRISON FOR VANDALISM IN KANO                                                                                         06-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 A Kano State Mobile Court has ordered the remand of 632 protesters in a Correctional Center for allegedly vandalizing public and government properties during the nationwide protest.

The defendants are facing a seven-count charge, including criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful assembly, inciting disturbance, trespass, and mischief by fire.

The court adjourned the matter until August 19 for continuation of hearing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, State Director Public Prosecution (DPP), Salisu Tahir, alleged that the defendants committed the offense on August 1, trespassing and vandalizing government and public properties in the state.

Some defendants pleaded guilty, while others pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The State Attorney General, Mr. Haruna Isa-Dederi, said the state government constituted three mobile courts to prosecute the defendants, and the case diary would be studied before the next adjourned date.
