NIGERIAN ARMY CHAMPIONS TREE PLANTING CAMPAIGN FOR SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT                                                                                                                           12-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Nigerian Army says it is championing the course to inspire Nigerians on massive tree planting campaign for sustainable environment.

The Chief of Special Service and Programmes in the Nigerian Army, Major General Henry Wesley stated this at a tree planting campaign ceremony held at the Infantry Conservation Education Centre, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.

Major General Henry Wesley explained that the ceremony was a symbolic and significant opportunity to project the structure to the world and the idea behind it.

He pointed out that in view of the dangers posed by tree felling on humans and food security, the Nigerian Army deemed it fit to inspire Nigerians on the need to embrace tree planting.

Major General Wesley disclosed that the Nigerian Army had established a farm and ranches department that is involved in crop development and animal husbandry, aimed at increasing public awareness.

In his remarks, the initiator of the project, Major General Kelvin Aligbe said the essence of establishing the Centre was to showcase Nigerian Army’s effort in conservation advocacy.

He noted that it was also set up to meet the therapeutic needs of Jaji residents and environs.

Major General Aligbe added that the Centre encompasses all the mascots of Nigerian Army formations, and is envisaged to expand and affiliate with global conservation and wildlife bodies.

Highpoints of the ceremony was a guided tour of the facility and tree planting exercise by senior officers.
