CCB ESTABLISHES A STRATEGIC DEPARTMENT TO RECOVER AND MANAGE PROCEEDS OF CRIME ACROSS THE COUNTRY                                                                         11-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              The Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB has established a strategic department to recover and manage proceeds of crime across the country.
Inaugurating the department in Abuja, the CCB acting chairman, Mr Muritala Kankia said it had become necessary to establish the department in view of the growing corrupt practices and the negative impact on the economy.

He also emphasized that the department will be in the best position to work with Anti- Corruption Agencies, such as The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission ICPC, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, and The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit NFIU, to tackle the use of proceeds of crime.

Mr Kankia stated that, though the CCB was currently phased with inadequate funding and shortage of manpower, the agency will achieve success with the new strategy and prosecute individuals or groups found using proceeds made through criminal activities. ” By the grace of God this committee has been inaugurated, the structure on ground, we have started giving them training. We are going to partner with ICPC, EFCC, NFIU so that we can make this nation proud in the fight against corruption.” He added.

Also at the inauguration the chairman Senate committee on Ethics, privileges and public petitions. Senator Neda Imasuen Said with the establishment of “the proceeds of crime recovery and management department” of the CBB indicated that Nigeria had taken a bold step to fight corruption. Senator Imasuen stressed that, “as the chairman of the committee, i implore your assistance to realise the lofty of the department and ensure the accountability within our public administration.

“As we celebrate this inauguration, it is imperative to know that the journey ahead will be challenging. The proceeds of crime recovery and management department need to navigate the complex landscape of legal financial and operational challenges. It is essential for the department to form strong partnership with other related agencies both within Nigeria and abroad. Collaboration will enhance the capacity to recover proceeds of crime. Furthermore, engaging with the civil societies and the media will help to foster transparency and maintain public confidence in the department’s operations.”senator Imasuen concluded.

The Code of Conduct,CCB was established by the Presidency to maintain high standards in the conduct of government business and enforce the code of conduct for public officers.
