KBSG COMMENCES SAFETY MEASURES ON FOCAST FLOODING FROM RIVER GUINEA, RIVER GAMBIA, RIVER SENEGAL, RIVER NIGER                                                                                                                                             11-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               Kebbi State Government, says it has Commenced safety measures against the prediction from NIMET that, the state might face serious flooding from the volume of water converging in River Senegal where River Futog-Jallon, River Gambia and River Niger met their source of water before flowing to Nigeria through Kebbi State.

Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, said the State Government at it’s executive council’s meeting had constituted a sixteen man committee under the Chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar to curtail the danger the impending flooding may cause the communities around the River Niger areas in the state.

The Commissioner explained that, NIMET had predicted that some communities around River Niger in the state might be worst hit by flood because of the convergence of waters in River Guinea from River Futa-Jallon, River Gambia which flows into Kebbi State through River Niger.

He said, some of the communities that might be worst hit are the riverine communities in the state.

Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, said the state government may decide to relocate some of the communities around River Niger to the highland areas and has directed Chairmen, Community and Religious leaders of the likely affected Local Government Areas to begin enlightenment and sensitization of the locals while government is looking at the possibility of creating IDPs camps for those that may be affected by the flood.

Africa247 Correspondent reports that, Bunza, Suru, Argungu, Augie, Birnin Kebbi, Bagudo, Kalgo, Dandi, Arewa, Yauri and Ngaski local government areas are areas prompt to flooding and likely to be affected worst by the impending flooding.
