FEC CONSTITUTES A COMMITTEE TO REASSESS DAMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO AVOID FUTURE DISASTER                                                                                                    23-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr. Joseph Utsev, who stated this in Abuja after this week’s meeting of FEC, said the committee would also identify dormant dams that could be revived.

Prior to FEC meeting, President Tinubu had, during his sympathy visit to Maiduguri, announced the setting up of a Disaster Relief Fund to assist victims of flood across the country.

Justifying the establishment of the Relief Fund despite the existence of an agency and similar relief funds to cater for that, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, said the dynamic and frequency of the effects of climate change compelled the President to set up a more comprehensive one that could deal with emerging threat appropriately.

Also briefing newsmen, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abukatar Kyari, said President had approved the provision of grains to victims of the Maiduguri flood disaster.
