FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO REVITALIZE ALMAJIRI EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM                                                                                            26-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The National Commission for Almajiri and out-of-School Children’s Education has inaugurated a committee to Coordinate and unify all Almajiri Schools associations in the country.

At the inauguration in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Idris said the move was part of efforts to reform the Almajiri educational system.

Alhaji Muhammad explained that the committee was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that all the Almajiri associations were identified under one body to enable them to get the required attention and assistance from the government.

He further said “The registered group of Almajiri is over two thousand. That makes it difficult for the government to address them, talk to them. So we felt that this number, as much as they are, they can be harnessed in one group, so that the government would have easy access to passing information to them, and the channel of communication would be clear”

The Executive Secretary while emphasizing the need to cater for this category of Nigerians, to prevent them from being used to cause chaos In their society, urged the Committee to be dedicated and support the present administration to achieve its goal of enrolling millions of Nigerian children in school.

He said “With the emergence of social vices, a lot of people have taken advantage of the vulnerability of Almajiri and they have been missed for things they were not meant for and the government felt that there was need to look at this number of children that are out to secure Quranic education to give them modern pedagogies so that they would also contribute to the development of their fatherland”

The Chairman of the Committee, Sheik Sayyadi Alqasim pledged the commitment of the members to accomplish the task.

“With the support of the Commission, we are going to work tirelessly to deliver, to make sure there was hope for this group of children in the country”

The eight-man Committee has three weeks to submit its report.
