By Sadiq Aminu Different reactions have continued to trail the suspension of the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Umar Damagum and the Court ruling restraining his suspension.
The Nigeria opposition lawmakers Coalition, in their reaction to the ongoing drama in the nation’s major opposition Political Party, PDP, backed the suspension of Alhaji Umar Damagum by the PDP National Working Committee, NWC.
The Spokesperson of the coalition, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere briefing journalists in Abuja said the Court order did not stop the National Working Committee of the PDP before they sacked the acting National Chairman, Alhaji Damagun.
Mr. Ugochinyere who explained that there was no Federal or State High Court order before the removal of Damagun as PDP Chairman, said the Coalition welcomes the appointment of Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the Acting National Chairman of the Party.
The Coalition insists that Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed remains the acting chair, while the party awaits the NEC meeting later this month.
Mr. Ugochinyere, while faulting the ruling of the Court, urged the courts to stay away from internal affairs of the Party.
Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday restrained the National Executive Committee, NEC, and Board of Trustees, BoT of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, from removing Alhaji Umar Damagun as the Acting National Chairman of the party.
The court ordered that no other person must be recognized as PDP national chairman other than Alhaji Damagun until the national convention of the party scheduled for December next year.
