OVER 102,000 CHILDREN BELOW AGE FIVE REGISTERED IN NASARAWA STATE AS PART OF THE 2024 LIVE BIRTH REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN                                                                                                                                     17-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Over 102,000 children under the age of five have been registered in Nasarawa State as part of the 2024 live birth registration campaign.

This was revealed by the Federal Commissioner for Benue and Nasarawa States, Mrs. Patricia Kupchi, during a sensitization meeting in Lafia.

The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders—including the National Orientation Agency, traditional rulers, women and youth groups, and religious leaders aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mobilizing communities across the state to participate in the ongoing birth registration drive.

In her keynote address, Mrs Kupchi, represented by the Nasarawa State Commissioner, Mrs Priscilla Jaggu, stated that the federal government had implemented a monitoring plan to ensure the smooth and sustainable registration of every child under five nationwide.

She also disclosed that over 530 ad-hoc registrars have been recruited and deployed to registration centres, including Primary Health Care facilities, across all 13 local government areas of the state.

Dr Priscilla Goanduo-Alour, Director of the National Orientation Agency in Nasarawa State, highlighted the critical role of birth registration in socioeconomic planning, urging for greater awareness and participation at the grassroots level.

The Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (retired), represented by Aren Koro Kuje and Mr Sunday Namo, reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to support the child registration campaign, noting its importance in enhancing the well-being of families across the state.
