PROTESTING STUDENTS SET PROVOST’S RESIDENCE ON FIRE IN KEBBI                                                                                                 17-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The students of College of Health Sciences and Technology Jega, Kebbi State, have set on fire the residence and vehicle of the college Provost, Haruna Saidu Sauwa following aledge extortion.

The students, alleged that, the college management extorted N23 million from students regarding index registration for 250 graduating students.

According to an anonymous source within the college, the controversy originated from a newly introduced public health programme, initially affiliated with Reproductive Health and the Public Health Association of Nigeria.

He said, the students alleged the management of extortion, thereby responded violently by stoning vehicles and setting the provost’s residence on fire. College staff fled the scene in fear before security personnel arrived.

The College Provost who spoke to Africa247 correspondent in a telephone call confirmed the incident and alleged some external forces were behind the students violence.

The Kebbi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said he is waiting for full report the Divisional Police Officer of Jega before informing the press.
