SOKOTO STATE GOVERNOR PARDONS 113 INMATES                                                                                                                               23-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has granted pardon to One hundred and thirteen Convicts serving variuos Jail terms in Sokoto state.

Speaking for the Governor while releasing the Inmates, the Chairman Advisory Council on prerogative of Mercy and Commissioner for Justise , Nasiru Muhammad Binji said the Governor granted the pardon in line with the powers Conferred on the Executive Governor by section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Commissioner who is also the Attorney general of the State said those granted pardon includes twenty two inmates whose Death sentences were changed to life imprisonment, and twenty two life sentences was reduced to 25 years.

He further explained that two others sentences reduced by 2 years, while Sixty Seven have been released unconditionally.

The Attorney general said the gesture was an extension of the Sixty four years independence Anniversary celebrations.

Africa247 correspondent in the state reports that each released inmate was given Fifty thousand Naira as transport Money by the State government.

In a respond, shortly after the release, the Comptroller of Correctional Service Sokoto Lawal Idris Gusau, commended the effort of the Governor and advised the released Inmates to change their attitude and become law abiding citizens.
