By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The federal government has Reaffirms it’s determination of boosting Electricity Supply with a view to reviving industrial revolution and enhancing the Nations Economy.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company ,held at KEDCO headquarters Kano.

He said his mission was to engage with critical stakeholders, including Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), to identify and tackle obstacles hindering optimal performance.

During his visit, Adelabu emphasized the need to revamp the transmission architecture, which currently relies heavily on Shiroro and Jos channels.

“This radial system leaves the northern region vulnerable to electricity disruptions whenever issues arise with these lines.”

To mitigate this, Adelabu advocated for establishing independent power sources within state metropolises to support the national grid.

The Minister explained that exploring alternative power sources to serve as backups to the National Grid has become necessary with a view to curtail future ocuarances of collapse of the National Grid.

“This proactive approach aims to ensure that the region is prepared for any eventuality, including vandalism or national grid collapse.”

Adelabu recognizes the crucial roles various stakeholders play in achieving these objectives:

“State Governments should ensure effective implementation of providing alternative electricity sources, And Discos should also ensure reliable distribution services,while Consumers shoukd utilize electricity efficiently.”

The Minister revealed that interested investors are willing to invest in Kano’s power sector. He plans to discuss alternative solutions with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prevent future blackouts.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu expressed his dismay over the metren process ,saying information available to him reveals that only 33% of electricity consumers have meters.

He admonished Kedco and other Discos Accros the nation to intensifying efforts in making the meters available to consumers witha view to ensure effective service delivery.
