KANO DOCTORS SUSPEND SERVICES AFTER COMMISSIONER’S ASSAULT                                                                                              06-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                             The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kano State has announced an indefinite withdrawal of medical services at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, starting today, November 6, 2024, at 12 noon.
This is contained in a statement signed by the PRO NMA Kano Dr. Muhammad Aminu Musa.

He explains that, the decision comes after the Kano State Government failed to take concrete action following a 48-hour ultimatum issued in response to the assault on a female doctor at the hospital’s Emergency Paediatric Unit.

The statement notes that, the Ministry of Health’s investigation confirmed the doctor’s professionalism and lack of fault in the incident.
“However, no action has been taken against the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, who led the assault and harassment”

Dr. Muhammad maintains that, the NMA Kano has outlined three key demands including the, immediate Dismissal of the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Adequate Staffing & Resource Allocation and Enhanced Security Measures for all hospital units to protect healthcare workers and patients

“The NMA remains committed to upholding medical care and patient safety standards, seeking justice and reforms to protect healthcare professionals”
