5 STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE BY THE NEAP IN COLLABORATION WITH FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION                                                                                                                 29-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Five Students have been recognized for their academic excellence by the National Education Awards Programme, NEAP in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The awardees also received cash prizes ranging from two hundred to five hundred thousand naira.

At the event in Abuja, One of the recipients of the award, Orevaoghene Whiskey, who won the 2023 WAEC National overall best student of the year, with nine A’s and the father of another awardee, Chima Okafor, 2023 NECO national overall best student and second overall in WAEC expressed joy and gratitude for the recognition.

Other recipients are Ifebube Benson who took second position in the NECO National overall best student category, 2023, Owuye Faheezah, Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, National overall best student of first position, while Jegede Oshotame came second.

The Minister of State, for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mr. funsho Aderibigbe extolled the perseverance of the students and encouraged them to continue in the path of greatness.

Chairman of the Occasion and President, Chris Igbokwe Foundation, High Chief Christian Igbokwe represented by the Vice President of the Foundation, Elder Steve Eboh commended the students for their determination and resilience.

The keynote speaker, Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Saadatu Liman who spoke on the theme of the event, “incentivizing learning and reading processes for optimal performance” called on the government and stakeholders to prioritize initiatives that reward academic excellence to further motivate students.

“The Federal Ministry of Education and all the examination bodies in the country should develop a policy of rewarding optimal performance to a minimum of three best candidates across the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions of learning in the country.”She said

The National Education Awards Programme which is the 2nd in its series also featured the launch of an endorsement fund to provide scholarship for the students.

NEAP is designed to honour, encourage and reward outstanding students in WAEC, NECO and Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, with the goal of providing scholarships to foster continued excellence in education.
