By Sadiq Aminu                                                               As part of efforts to re-orientate Nigerians to shun vices and embrace core national values, the National Orientation Agency has embarked on a nationwide campaign against the get-rich-quick syndrome that has given rise to internet fraud and ritual killing in some parts of the country.

At a news conference to kick-start the Sensitization on Security Consciousness Campaign against Get Rich Quick Syndrome in Owerri to the Director General National Orientation Agency Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu blamed the unethical practice on erosion of age-long values and economic hardship being experienced.

Mallam Issa-Onilu represented by a Director in the Agency Mrs. Theresa Maduekwe however appealed to the people to reject shortcuts to wealth and embrace integrity noting that the government had initiated policies and programmes that would help to address poverty and reduce crime to the barest.

The Director General explained that tax reforms embarked by the Federal Government will check multiply taxation and reduce tax burden on low income earners when operational.

The State Director of the Agency, Mrs. StellaMaris-Damian Opara added that Community and Mobilization Officers across the twenty seven local government areas of Imo state have been mobilized to engage stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign.

Africa247 Correspondent reports that issues of citizen’s participation in fighting insecurity, reducing the burden of HIV/AIDS and upholding human rights were also discussed during the event.
