WHY WE REJECTED BUDGET FOR MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND IT’S AGENCIES- SENATE COMMITTEE 14-01-25
By Sadiq Aminu The senate has rejected the Proposed 2025 Budget Allocation to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation and all the agencies under the Ministry.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, Chief Kenneth Eze briefing journalists after the rejection of the Budget proposal, said that the budget was inadequate for the Ministry and the agencies to effectively carry out their mandates.
Chief Eze, explained with the situation in the country there was the need to effectively communicate Government Policies and Programmes to Nigerians as well as get feedback from the citizens, the responsibilities which the Ministry and its agencies were saddled with.
According to the Committee, so many programmes of the government were not well understood by the citizens despite the good intentions behind the the programmes, hence the need to invest in enlightening and value reorientation of the citizens.
The Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Garba Musa Maidoki, while also expressing concerns over the poor funding of the Ministry and agencies under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, emphasized that some of the crises that occured in Nigeria would have been curtailed if Nigerians were adequately sensitized and enlightened on the causes.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, earlier in his opening remarks during the Budget Defence explained that value reorientation was key to the development of the country which the Ministry is spearheading.
Mr. Idris said for the citizens to key into the reforms and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Present administration, there was the need for the citizens to be adequately and properly enlightened on the Policies and Programmes of the government which is one of the key mandates of the Ministry.
