FORMER GOVERNOR OF SOKOTO STATE FAILS TO APPEAR BEFORE A COMMISSION OF INQUIRY 17-01-25
By Sadiq Aminu Sokoto State Judicial Commission of Enquiry says former Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has failed to appear before the Commission after being invited to appear as number one witness .
Speaking at the official closure of the Commission, Chairman and presiding judge of the commission which commenced its public hearing since the seventh of August 2023, Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga said the commission would not keep adjoining its hearings just because they want the former governor to appear after four adjournment in a bid to enable the former governor to appear.
He explained that the commission of Inquiry was setup to examine the sales and auction of Sokoto state Government’s and Local Government’s assets.
He explained that, under the section seven of the Commissions of Inquiry Law of Sokoto state, the commission is vested with the power to procure and obtained evidences, written or oral, from individuals and groups that would assist the commission towards the execution of it mandate.
He maintained that the Commission was not out to witch-hunt anybody but to
unearth the truth regarding the terms of reference of the Commission.
Africa247 correspondent in Sokoto, reports that the Terms of Reference under which the commission operated was to examine the Sales and Auctions of Government Assets including all official vehicles of State and Local Governments, all Plants and Machineries of State and Local Governments,
donations and gifts of Government Assets,
to ascertain the Government Bank Account and amount realized from the Sales and Auctions of government assets.
The commission had also examined the various allocations of lands throughout the state including plots of land allocated to individuals and body of persons among others.
The chairman of the commission said after submitting their report to the state government, the government will review and make necessary decisions in the Interest of the public.
According to Counsel to the commission Barr. Hassan Liman said SAN witnesses have appeared and testified excep Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
He noted that the commission’s decision to conclude the public hearing is in line with its terms of reference.
Also Counsel to Tambuwal, Barrister Nuhu Adamu, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling of the commission and announced plans to apply for a copy of the ruling in order to proceed with an appeal.
