AREWA YOUTHS URGE GOVERNOR FUBARA TO RESPECT RULE OF LAW IN RIVERS STATE 07-02-25
By Sadiq Aminu The Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence have called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to uphold the rule of law and respect judicial decisions in the ongoing political crisis.
Speaking at a press conference, the group’s National President, Bature Haruna, and FCT Coordinator, Mark Okpanachi Ogah, expressed concerns over recent political developments in the state, urging all parties to embrace lawful governance.
The group criticized Governor Fubara’s signing of the N1.188 trillion Rivers State 2025 budget, which was presented by a factional three-member Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
They argued that the action was in disregard to court rulings recognizing Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. They also noted that Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers are politically aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and should not be sidelined.
Furthermore, the Arewa Youths reminded Governor Fubara of Wike’s crucial role in his political rise, including shielding him from financial misconduct allegations. They described Fubara’s alleged attempt to dismantle Wike’s political structure as an act of betrayal and a threat to political stability in the state. They urged him to retract the budget, recognize the legitimate House leadership, and adhere to the reconciliation process initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace and justice, commending President Tinubu for his intervention in the Rivers State crisis and his approval of the North Central Development Commission. They called on all political actors to respect the constitution and work towards sustainable development and unity in Nigeria.
