KANO STATE GOVERNMENT TAKES SIGNIFICANT STEP TO REGULATE THE ACTIVITIES OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs)                                                                                         18-02-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The Kano State Government has taken a significant step to regulate the activities of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the state.

A high-powered committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk, to serve as a data bank for NGOs operating in Kano.

The committee’s primary objective is to profile international, national, and local NGOs, providing a clear picture of their sources of funding and other relevant information.

According to the SSG, this move is aimed at addressing allegations surrounding NGO activities in the state.

According to Alhaji Umar Faruk, the committee will serve as a guide for NGOs, which currently operate without terms of reference. The chairman of the committee, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, emphasized that the committee’s mandate is not to witch-hunt anyone but to ensure transparency and accountability.

The committee comprises notable members, including the coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Kano, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, and the executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Kubarachi.

This development is a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the NGO sector in Kano State.
