By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested two suspects for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Jalingo village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Bawa Sa’idu, 22, and Weti Saleh, 25, are accused of conspiring to gang-rape the victim, inflicting serious injuries.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Saidu and Saleh on February 15, 2025, at approximately 3:30 PM, following complaints from the victim’s relatives.

SP Dungus stated that the victim is receiving immediate medical attention and the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Damaturu for further investigation.

In a separate incident, the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued Hassan Alh Yau, 15, of Kojolo Hamlet, Dadawel Village, after been kidnapped on February 12, 2025, by criminals demanding a ransom.

The rescue operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and other weapons.

Police have also apprehended individuals in Damaturu for allegedly using an uncompleted building to conceal stolen property, as security measures intensify in the state capital.

State Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, commended the Command’s efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminal activity in Yobe State.
