NERC MOVES TO RESOLVE CONSUMERS, ELECTRICITY SUPPLIERS

By Sadiq Aminu                                                   The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission says it’s Committed to ensuring customer rights and obligations aimed at setting cost reflective industry tariffs.

Speaking on behalf of the commission at a three day Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting, the public Relations officer, Hajiya Nusrat Wali said the meeting was aimed at discussing measures with Electricity Distribution Company and consumers as well as other stakeholders with a view to proffers solutions for effective service delivery.

She explained that the meeting will extensively discuss modalities on customer complaints that are not resolved by the electricity distribution companies.

According to her, NERC which is an independent body saddled with the mandate to undertake technical and economic regulation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industries has recorded significant achievements including the expansion of capacity and network by the issuance of licences for electricity generation, transmission, distribution and trading among others.

In her opening remarks, the Commissioner, consumer Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Mahmud said the commission assured market rules and a multi-year tariff order that ensures attractive and stable electricity market in Nigeria.

She added that the commission would continue to maintained stakeholder engagement processes in a bid to enhancing transparency, fairness and accountability.
