INSTITUTE Of TOWN PLANNERS DECRIES POOR IMPLEMENTATION OF URBAN PLANNING LAW 27-02-25
By Sadiq Aminu The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners has expressed concern over poor implementation of Urban Regional Planning Law and non adherence to approved Master Plans in Major cities across the country.
The new Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners FCT Chapter, Queen Imalue Phillips who stated this during the inauguration of the Executive in Abuja said poor implementation would make it impossible in achieving sustainable development.
Queen Imalue Phillips stressed that the new executive would work with the National body of the Institute to ensure that relevant government authorities keep to the physical plan and check operations of quacks in the country.
According to her, proper sensitization of citizens and strict enforcement of urban regional laws will bring sanity to the cities and enhance socio-economic growth.
On the ongoing demolition of illegal structures in the federal capital territory, Queen Imalue Phillips argued that the menace would not stop until elites in the territory have a change of mind.
She said it has been very difficult for the institute to carry out its official assignment effectively in the territory due to refusal by some residents to adhere to the Abuja master plan.
She appealed to the residents to give maximum support to the FCT administration’s ongoing developmental strides in making Abuja a world-class city.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners assured that the new executive would give priority to the capacity building of Town Planners for effective service delivery.
In a remark, a former Permanent Secretary in the FCT, Mr Olusegun Adekunle emphasized the need for all professionals to assist the present administration’s efforts at attracting foreign investments into the country.
Other stakeholders at the inauguration of the new executives pledged to mobilize support for the Tinubu administration in efforts to reposition the country for sustainable development.
