FEC GIVES APPROVAL TO THE MINIYSTRY OF WORKS TO AWARD CONTRACTS OF N700BN FOR THE REHABILITATION OF SELECTED ROAD PROJECTS                                                                                                                    06-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu.                                                       The Federal Council, FEC, has given approval to the Ministry of Works to award contracts worth about 700 billion Naira for the rehabilitation of selected road projects.

The Minister of State for the Ministry, Alhaji Muhammad Goronyo, told newsmen in Abuja that phase one of the Alkaleri-Fukuk road in Bauchi State, which is among those to be rehabilitated, would cost 11.278 Naira, to be completed in 6 months.

Others are phase one of the Uturu-Isukuato-Akara road in Abia State, with a contract sum of 5.926 billion Naira, to be completed within 6 months.

The construction of the road from Zaria-Hunkuyi to Kolomani, Dambali, Maraba, Kanya, Subawa, and Kasa in Kaduna and Katsina States, costing 198 billion Naira, to be completed in 36 months.

One of the sections of the Kano-Maiduguri road, which was terminated at Dantetan-Soho, on Wudil to Shuwarin road in Kano State, costing 128.395 billion Naira, is expected to be completed in 18 months.

Also in the approved memoranda is the rehabilitation of the 57-kilometre Bagudu road in Kebbi State, in the sum of 2.645 billion Naira.

Phase one of the Obanewi, Arundu-Zogo to Okigbe road in Imo and Anambra States, which will be scoped, has a variation, increasing the contract sum to 8.405 billion Naira, with completion period of 6 months, based on the availability of funds.

Section one of Iyin-Ilawe-Ekiti road, costing 15.26 billion Naira, was also considered.

Also approved is phase one of the scoping and variation on the construction of Ilobu road from Kwara State to Osun State, in the sum of 7.556 billion Naira, to be completed in six months

Falling in the same category is the Wukari-Akwana road in Taraba State, costing 12.615 billion Naira, is expected to be completed in 12 months.

The construction of Bida-Lambata road in Niger State got approval for re-scoping, with a variation, increasing the contract sum to 39.493 billion Naira, to be completed in 6 months.

Also considered is the review of the Gada to Gamji road in Kebbi State, costing 11.976 billion Naira for a construction period of six months.

Shore protection of Outer Marina in Lagos to further protect Federal Government’s critical assets along the shore, such as the Navy, the Army, and Police, and the rail line in Lagos, in the sum 176 billion Naira.

Inclusive of the approval is the Cham-Numan road and bridge in Adamawa State, washed away by last year’s flood.

Similarly, the review of phase one of the dualisarion of Aba-Ekote-Benin road got approved in the sum of 30 billion Naira.
