PRO-NATASHA PROTEST ROCKS NASS OVER AKPABIO                                                                                                           06-03-25

By Sadiq Aminu.                                                        Thousands of pro-Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan protesters on today besieged the gate leading to the National Assembly Complex over allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The protesters, comprising mainly women and men from Kogi Central Senatorial District were seen carrying placards, banners and a national flag.

They called on the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions to which Senator Natasha alleged misconduct in Chamber has been referred for probe, to recuse itself.

According to them, a man cannot be a judge in his case.

They called on Senator Akpabio to resign his position to allow for an unbiased probe of the allegations.

Some of them claimed that their law firm has obtained a court injunction to stop the Senate Committee on Ethics from proceeding with its assignment.

They said that the chairman and members of the committee cannot be expected to dispense Justice without bias seeing that they were appointed by the Senate President.

There was also heavy security presence at the gate due to the protest.

Meanwhile the Senate president Godswill Akpabio at the plenary told Nigerians not to belief in rumour but wait for outcome of the court.

Senator Akpabio said he has never harassed senator Natasha at any point but said all issues she raised are mere allegations.

Senator Natasha Uduaghan also laid a petition at the floor of the senate but some of the senators said the matter was in court and cannot be discussed at the plenary.

Responding ,Senator Natasha told the Senate that the issue in court was not about the alleged sexual harassment but on another matter.
