By Sadiq Aminu                                                     A middle aged woman has been reportedly killed at Amaeze village, Mgbakwu in Awka North Council Area of Anambra State.

The young lady was said to be in her tailoring shop when a stray bullet hit and killed her.

According to some eye witnesses, a suspected security operation in the area by the Agunechemba outfit comprising vigilante and other operatives visited the area before the incident occurred.

Several gunshots which lasted for a long time were heard before the security team were said to have driven off.

According to an eye witness, Mr Ugwu Emmanuel, the woman was hit on the neck by bullets from gunshots fired by the security operatives, expressing concerns over the practice of shooting indiscriminately during operations.

Another resident, expressed worry that security operatives who ought to be protecting innocent citizens are the one killing them, calling for justice for the deceased.

However, an indigene who spoke to Africa247 correspondent on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the security operatives were about leaving after their operation, when some youths blocked the roads leading to the shooting.

As at the time of filing this report, the nearby Nkwo Mgbakwu daily market had been deserted, as angry natives moved the corpse of the woman to the Police Station Mgbakwu to register their grievances over rampant sporadic shootings by the newly established Agunechemba security outfit.

Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner for Information, Doctor Law Mefor, said the government was aware of the allegations and had already commenced investigation into the matter.

While condemning the unlawful killing, the Commissioner emphasized that the primary objective of Agụnechemba outfit was to restore security and not to instill fear or engage in reckless shootings.

He further assured that the government would not tolerate any abuse of power or extrajudicial actions from any security operative in the state.

Doctor Mefor assured that the government would reach out to the commander of Agụnechemba, Ken Emeakayi, to ascertain what really happened even as he noted that an armed security operative is only justified in using force when confronted with a serious threat.
