SHUTTLE AND TRICYCLE OPERATORS BLOCKED THE IMMIGRATION JUNCTION AXIS OF THE ENUGU ONITSHA EXPRESSWAY OVER ALLEGED MULTIPLE TAXATION                                                                                                                   28-03-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      Some shuttle and tricycle operators in Anambra State have blocked the Immigration Junction axis of the Enugu Onitsha Expressway over alleged multiple taxation by the state government.

The operators in their numbers used their vehicles and tricycles to barricade the roads leading to the state Revenue House .

According to them, the Anambra state Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, has been extorting money from them in the guise of revenue generation for the government.

They narrated that some of their members plying the Nnamdi Azikiwe University axis were arrested by AIRS and detained for the past four days for not paying fees not known to the drivers.

The operators called on the governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to come to their rescue by intervening in the situation as they were being subjected to paying several fees without recourse to the directive by the governor that collection should be harmonized.

As at the time of filing this report, the roads were still blocked while all calls put across to the Chairman Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Doctor Greg Ezeilo was not successful as he did not pick calls.

Africa247 correspondent reports that the situation caused heavy traffic gridlock in the area leaving many commuters stranded as the operators kept discharging passengers being conveyed by their members.
