DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT REITERATES COMMITMENT TO COMBATING RESTIVENESS IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY                                                                                              02-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Delta State Government has reiterated commitment to combating restiveness in the oil and gas industry by creating and sustaining conducive environment for the growth of the sector in the state.

The State Commissioner for oil and gas, Mr Peter Uviejitobor stated this in his office while reacting to allegation of oil spill in parts of the state.

He said his ministry was saddled with the responsibility of resolving conflicts and crises between communities and oil companies with a view to ensuring peaceful environment for business to thrive.

The Delta State Commissioner who noted with satisfaction that Delta remains number one oil producing state in the country, said the state government was intensifying efforts to maintain the leading position by ensuring that priority was accorded to host communities of oil and gas installations in the state.

”We have series of meeting with oil and gas companies as well as HOSTCOM. We adjudicated so many conflicting issues that have brought peace to the oil and gas industry in the state today. Our major position is to make sure that there is peace across Delta State, so that we can maximize production ”

”With God on our side, Delta is number One oil producing state in the country, and we are retaining the leading position with intensified efforts to stream down restiveness in the oil and gas industry,” stated Oviejitobor.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Frank Omoko, who hinted that a lot was being done to encourage private sector investment in modular refineries, said the privately owned modular refinery in Kwale had commenced operation on a small scale with diesel,.

He stated that Delta State government had received two more proposals for establishment of modular refinery in Ozoro- Oleh axis and Koko , assuring that government will continue to provide adequate security for smooth operation.of oil and gas industry.

”Delta State government has put in place measures to ensure that companies or people interested in investing in modular refineries can come up with their proposals to the state. If they have gotten their licence from federal government, and they want to site their location in any part of Delta. We will look at the site location based on the approval to ascertain their true position. ”

”In some years back, we have seen people who came and said they want to build modular refinery. Suddenly, they disappeared. We didn’t see them again ”, revealed Omoko.
