Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has praised the grassroots peace initiative that has fostered harmony between farmers and pastoralists in Guri Local Government Area.
Speaking at a peace durbar organized by Fulani community leader Lamido Gide as part of the state’s “Gwamnati da Jamaa” citizen engagement programme, Governor Namadi commended the collaborative efforts that have sustained peace in the area.
He noted that lasting peace is best achieved through community-led efforts and assured continued government support for such reconciliatory initiatives.
Lamido Gide, the durbar organizer, said the reconciliation efforts were aimed at restoring peaceful coexistence between Hausa farmers and Fulani herders, which has resulted in two years of relative calm in the area.
District Head of Guri, Malam Isma’ila Guri, also lauded the impact of the peace deal, stating that communal clashes have significantly reduced, with cattle routes respected and farming activities flourishing once again.
He encouraged residents to maintain peace and resolve disputes amicably.
