Bayero University Kano (BUK), through its Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), will host the 5th International Conference on Drylands from May 6–8 in Kano.
The CDA Director, Professor Jibrin Mohammed-Jibrin, said the conference will bring together experts from academia, government, civil society, development organizations, and pastoralist communities to discuss sustainable rangeland management across Africa and other dryland regions.
With the theme “Promoting Sustainability and Resilience of Rangelands: Present and Future Outlooks,” the event will address issues such as climate change, land degradation, desertification, and conflict over natural resources.
The conference will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and paper presentations on topics like climate-smart livestock, land restoration, and conflict resolution. Outcomes will contribute to global initiatives, including the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and the AU Agenda 2063.
The CDA, a World Bank- and AFD-supported Centre of Excellence, continues to lead in dryland research, training, and policy engagement across West and Central Africa.
