NCAT Rector Urges Increased Funding Amid Staff Exodus

The Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, has urged the government to significantly increase budgetary allocations and funding for the institution. His appeal comes in response to the growing loss of trained personnel to better-paying opportunities in the aviation industry.
In a statement issued by NCAT’s Director of Information, Dr. Jude Amadi, Dr. Ismaila attributed the high attrition rate among staff to the college’s uncompetitive salary structure. He explained that many trained professionals have left for sister agencies and industry roles that offer more attractive remuneration.
Dr. Ismaila made these remarks during an oversight visit by the Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation Technology, Hon. Tajudeen Abisodun. The visit included a tour of the institution’s facilities.
Highlighting NCAT’s strategic importance in supplying skilled manpower to Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Rector expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, as well as from past administrations.
In response, Hon. Abisodun commended NCAT for its pivotal role in advancing aviation in both Nigeria and beyond. He pledged the committee’s continued support in addressing the institution’s challenges, particularly in the areas of staff welfare and infrastructure development.
He also promised to carefully review the Rector’s presentation to identify priority areas for intervention and pledged ongoing engagement with the college to ensure its needs are met.
The committee members, impressed by the quality of the college’s facilities, assured NCAT of their commitment to securing the resources necessary for it to maintain its high standards in aviation training.
