BAYELSA STATE GAS TURBINE PROJECT TO BE READY BY DECEMBER 16-05-25
By Sadiq Aminu Construction works on the sixty megawatts gas turbine project to provide stable power supply in Bayelsa State is in progress.
Officials of the State government and the Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited say the project would be completed on the scheduled period before the end of this year.
Governor Douye Diri had during an anniversary to mark his first year in his second term announced plans to establish an independent power project to end the incessant black outs and stop the dependence on the national grid by providing uninterrupted electricity supply in Bayelsa State by the end of this year.
Consequently, the State Executive Council at its one hundred and fifty-first meeting approved the purchase of two gas turbines that would provide a combined sixty megawatts of power to consumers in Yenagoa and its environs.
Months later, construction works are being intensified to meet up the deadline for the independent power plant officially known as the Yenagoa Power Projects which officials say is a Plug and Play Gas Turbine.
Conducting newsmen round the site of the project which is located in Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area, on the outskirts of Yenagoa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited, Mr. Olice Kemenanabo said the job would be completed by December this year.
Represented by the Director of Operations, Mr. Steve Bubagha he said work was in progress, as the twin gas turbines would arrive in Yenagoa in the coming months.
The site for the project has approximately five point eight hectares of land with two point one hectares being utilized as the gas fired turbine would receive gas feed from the OandO gas manifold also located in Elebele.
Technical Adviser to the Governor on Print Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Wisdom Ikuli said the Governor Diri led Administration is bent on ending the frequent power outages by providing uninterrupted electricity supply to boost the growth of businesses and the economy as well as fast track industrialization in the State.
Residents of the Bayelsa State capital are hoping that the Gas fired electricity project would be completed in December as promised to address the constant black out being experienced.
