HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS APPLAUD IMPROVEMENT IN FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES IN BORNO STATE                                                                    18-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       A health care provider Fatima Tijjani has applauded the increase in the number of women turning up for family planning services at health care centres in the metropolis.

Fatima Tijjani stated this at Herwa Peace Estate PHC in Maiduguri Metropolitan council MMC when The Challenge Initiative TCI media team visited the unit.

She said for 2025 January and February alone Herwa Clinic had about 268 Family planning clients and only about 109 deliveries showing a tremendous increase in FP Knowledge due to media awareness.

Fatima Tijjani who is also the FP unit head, appealed to government and other partners for more FP supplies and also increase in male involvement in the child birth spacing activities.

Earlier, a one day media round table was organised by TCI where papers were presented by TCI state programmes manager Dr Yusuf Abubakar, Dr Halima Sa’id of the State primary health care board and Mr Bishop Onche.

All the presenters emphasized on how to bridge the gaps in family planning uptake across the state, and the use of story telling and social media to increase FP awareness.

The Challenge Initiative TCI has from January 2023 to March 2025 reached over 200,000 persons, referred over a hundred thousand for family planning services and 82,234 people have completed referral services in 40 facilities across eight local government Areas of Borno state.
