The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), led by Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has formally handed over 753 recovered housing units to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The properties, located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09 in the Lokogoma District of Abuja, span 150,500 square meters and include duplexes and other apartment units.

These housing units were recovered following a final forfeiture order issued by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on December 2, 2024.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to transparent asset recovery and disposal processes. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that proceeds of crime are not only recovered but also used in ways that benefit the public.

“We want to assure Nigerians that any asset recovered through our efforts will be used transparently and meaningfully. We must not allow looted assets to be re-looted,” he said. “One of our primary mandates is to ensure that those who have stolen from our commonwealth are stripped of those illicit gains.”

Mr. Olukoyede also commended President Bola Tinubu for his strong support of anti-corruption efforts, noting that the transfer of these properties underscores the government’s dedication to fighting economic and financial crimes.

The handover ceremony was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, lauded the EFCC’s dedication to asset recovery and described the event as a key step toward maximizing public benefit from reclaimed assets.

“This handover marks a significant milestone in our collective commitment to ensure recovered properties serve the interests of Nigerians,” Dangiwa said.

He added that the ministry, in collaboration with the EFCC, will conduct a joint assessment tour of the estate to evaluate its structural condition and determine appropriate next steps.
